When I was first learning photography, reading “What’s In My Camera Bag” posts helped me decide what equipment was worth saving for. It took years of shooting, learning, and plenty of trial and error before I found the gear that truly fit my style and workflow. Today, every piece of equipment I carry has earned its place because it helps me create timeless, true-to-life wedding images while allowing me to work quickly and confidently throughout an entire wedding day.
If you’re a beginner, don’t feel like you need to own everything on this list right away. My first year of wedding photography income went almost entirely toward investing back into my business. Building your gear collection takes time, and it’s much more important to master the equipment you already own than to constantly chase the newest camera or lens.
My Wedding Photography Camera Gear
These are the pieces of gear that come with me to nearly every wedding day. First off let’s start with my favorite Roller Suitcase Bag.
My rolling camera case keeps all of my gear organized, protected, and easy to transport throughout a wedding day. From getting ready locations to reception venues, it allows me to bring everything I need without carrying unnecessary weight on my shoulders.

I always photograph weddings with two professional camera bodies. Having a backup isn’t just convenient.. it’s essential. Weddings only happen once, so I never want to risk missing an important moment due to equipment failure.
My Favorite Wedding Photography Lenses
These lenses cover nearly everything I need throughout a wedding day, from getting ready to the final dance.
The 28-70mm rarely leaves my camera. It gives me incredible flexibility without sacrificing image quality, making it perfect for everything from candid moments to family portraits.
When I want beautiful compression and creamy background blur, I reach for the 85mm lens. It’s one of my favorite lenses for portraits, ceremonies, and emotional moments throughout the day.
Flash & Lighting Equipment
Good lighting can completely transform an image, especially during wedding receptions.

This combination gives me reliable lighting throughout the day and allows me to create clean, natural-looking flash images when the sun goes down.
Wedding Day Accessories I Never Leave Home Without
The little accessories often make the biggest difference on a wedding day.
The Spider Camera Holster Belt keeps both camera bodies secure and easily accessible, allowing me to move quickly without constantly adjusting camera straps.
I always carry multiple CF Express and SD Cards so I have plenty of storage and backup throughout the day. (And enough for my second shooters.)
Keeping my batteries organized in a Canon Battery Holder makes battery swaps quick and prevents me from accidentally grabbing a dead battery. I try to have about 6-8 charged on wedding days.
And finally, my JBL Clip is one of my favorite non-camera essentials. Whether we’re getting ready in the bridal suite or traveling between locations, having music playing helps everyone relax and keeps the energy up throughout the day.
Why I Invest in Professional Camera Gear
Professional wedding photography equipment isn’t about owning the most expensive gear—it’s about having equipment you can completely trust when there’s no opportunity for a second chance.
Every wedding day is different, and my gear allows me to photograph everything from bright outdoor ceremonies to dimly lit receptions while delivering consistent, high-quality images my couples can cherish for a lifetime.
If you’re building your own photography kit, my biggest advice is to invest slowly, learn your equipment inside and out, and only upgrade when you’ve truly outgrown what you already have.
